Finding Magic: The Life and Legend of Magic Sam

Magic Sam’s West Side Soul (1967) album is often regarded as a cornerstone of the electric blues and one of the best blues albums ever made.

“..... Janis Joplin used to make a zillion dollars playing up on the North Side (Chicago) and then go down and hear Sam play in a bar intuit 4 a.m. at $20 a night.”

-Dick Waterman; Manager of Buddy Guy “People often point out Magic Sam as a central figure in developing the West Side Chicago

blues sound, alongside Otis Rush, Muddy Waters and Buddy Guy.” -American Blues Scene

FINDING MAGIC is a feature-length documentary chronicling the life, legacy, and sound of blues legend Samuel “Magic Sam” Maghett — one of Chicago’s most electrifying guitarists who helped define the modern electric blues sound before his untimely death at just 32 years old.

Through archival footage, intimate interviews, immersive sound, and stylized visual storytelling, the film will explore how Magic Sam transformed the Chicago blues scene and influenced generations of rock and soul musicians worldwide.

This project aims to reclaim Magic Sam’s rightful place among America’s most vital musical innovators and introduce his timeless energy to a global audience.
